introducing solid food

»

I have decided to start the baby with rice cereal though she doesn’t seems to be quite ready yet (Introducing solid foods). Her anti formula protest have given me too much headache and made me really distress. I bought the Gerber rice cereal (with banana flavor) and pray hard that she will not reject it. On Monday, I gave instruction to Indah (babysitter during the afternoon) to make three big tablespoonful of cereal, as according to the recommendation on the box for her age. What an ambitious try! Thank goodness, she seemed fond of the new taste and was smiling and kicking when the food was spooned into her mouth. However, she didn’t really know how to eat the food offered. Her tongue thrusting reflex pushed most of the cereal out. The food was all over the place, her cheeks, her nose, her neck. She tried to eat her fist and then rub her eyes! In the end, she had a cereal facial mask. It was a very funny sight!

I realized it was totally silly of me to believe that she could eat like a pro on the first attempt. Changed plan. The awful formula bottle was offered first. Ok, the situation was better yesterday, she took 3oz. Then we made one tablespoonful of cereal. This time, she did it better. The food was all over her face, but not as messy. She almost finished the whole serving until something happened. She pooped and started crying for her nappy change! What an unexpected ending!

Holiday today, no babysitter for the afternoon. As I was very happy with her progress, I decided to feed her myself. It was a total disaster. First, I don’t have a proper place to feed her. Secondly, I made the cereal too watery, and thirdly, she prefers that i nurse her. I gave up! I think I die die must get another bouncy chair before I attempt to feed her at home, and probably wait until she can swallow properly.
