I have always wanted a dog as a kid. They are smart, interactive. However, my parents always cite the same things. Troublesome, smelly. And I never got to own one. I'm not sure if it would have made any difference if I did. Anyway, I read somewhere that having a pet when the kid is slightly older may be helpful if you make them learn about and take on the responsibility.

Yeah yeah DON'T!!! Pets are not toys and should never be treated like a toy. If you want a pet for your girl, probably you should wait till she is older, so that you can teach her to be a responsible pet owner and at the same time inculcate a love for little animals.

remember hor DON'T! NO NO *wag finger*

actually birds can be trained if u have the passion.. my friend has actually kept many birds and even reptiles and they do respond when she calls them..and sometimes when she forgets their feeding time they will actually fly to her and bite her finger to let her know.. but you have to be really committed.. so i don't think a pet bird is a good choice for you.. if u want to keep a pet the simpliest is a rabbit or a hamster.. they may be boring.. but they are train-able..
